COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE
JR Rohr
As we roll through the first quarter of 2023, I have to shake my head and wonder how we got here this fast.
The Community Involvement Committee has hit the ground running this year. We just wrapped up our first event of the year, “Souperbowl Drive” to benefit Paxton’s Blessing Box. Through the generous donations of our association members, we were able to donate 9572 food items. For anyone who is not familiar with Paxton’s Blessing Box, or interested in volunteering, below is some information from their website:
“Paxton’s Blessing Box is here for our communities and visitors, when they need us most! The crimson red food pantry box originated with #1 in Riverside – Wichita, KS – then Paxton’s idea starting growing in Wichita, then the suburbs of Wichita, THEN in several Kansas towns AND now emerging in other areas of the USA! These pantry boxes are open 24/7, but it takes everyone, everywhere to be kind and extend a blessing, when you can!
We believe that everyone deserves to have access to non-perishable food and other essentials, especially in these new times of uncertainty. Folks, food insecurity is sad, but a real issue. Food deserts are happening more and all too often. That’s why our Blessing Box crews are working hard to keep something in those red blessing boxes! We ask our community supporters, while at your local grocery store shopping for your own family, please consider picking up a can or two of soup or peanut butter or mac n cheese and drop it in a Paxton’s Blessing Box near you.” - https://paxtonsblessingbox.com/
Now that we have wrapped up the “Souperbowl Drive” we are rolling right into RRC with a Heart Numana food packing event. The event will be held at the Sedgwick County Extension Center (21st and Ridge Rd) on Saturday March 25th from 1-3 PM. Be on the look out for more information about volunteering and donation opportunities. Numana is another local organization that is doing amazing things to change the world. Numana’s first event was held in El Dorado, KS in December of 2009. If you are interested in donating for signing up to volunteer just click this link!
As always, we appreciate the giving spirit of our Association and the support it provides to our community. I am looking forward to a year of exceptional giving! We have big plans for 2023 and will need all the support we can get.
