“Our unity is our strength, and our diversity is our power. We reject the myth of “us” vs. “them.” We are in this together.” – Kamala Harris
This fourth of July, I urge you to sit down and think on Independence Day and all you are grateful for in our beautiful nation. Think about our nation’s history and freedom achieved. Reflect on the many people in our nation that still do not feel freedom in contexts. How can you make a change to further unite America? Remember to celebrate not just America, but all Americans. Have a discussion with peers and share each other’s backgrounds to learn about their unique background. Thank those around you who have served this country. Celebrate life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!
The DEI Committee is excited to start our first book club reading, “The Color of Law” by Richard Rothstein. The book spent 40 weeks on the New York Times best seller list and dives into the history of the modern America metropolis and how laws and policy decisions passed by local, state, and federal governments promoted discriminatory patterns that continue today. We’ll kick it off on Thursday, August 3 with a party at RSCK at 5:30. From then on, the book club we’ll meet every other Thursday until October 26. Join us as we connect with one another and have meaningful conversations.
