September/October REALTOR® Update
RSCK is set to host Candidate Interviews for Wichita City Council and USD 259 School Board in September. These Interviews are a part of RSCK’s strategy to engage its member base in upcoming elections, as well as offering endorsements and REALTORS® Political Action Committee funding to candidates that support REALTORS® and the real estate industry.
Following the August Primary, the field for Wichita City Council was narrowed down to 10 contenders: in District 2: Becky Tuttle, Marcey Gregory, and Hatim Zeineddine; District 4: Dalton Glasscock and Judy Pierce; District 5: Gary Bond, JV Johnston, and Ben Taylor; and in the Mayoral Race: Brandon Whipple and Lily Wu. The candidates for USD 259 School Board are: At-Large: Melody McCray Miller and Brent Davis; District 3: Ngoc Vuong and Ken Carpenter; and District 4: Jason Carmichael and Stan Reeser.
Issues coming to the forefront of the election are economic development, rising property valuations and taxes, and civility in public service. But what it comes down to in RSCK’s endorsement decisions is a candidate’s support for real estate issues. Financial contributions will be determined by the RPAC Board of Trustees in the weeks following.
The objectives of RSCK’s Government Affairs are to: evaluate and provide feedback on proposed government action that would impact the real estate industry; coordinate grassroots efforts to mobilize REALTOR® members to advance the legislative and regulatory initiatives of the local, state, and national associations; as well as advocate for the participation in the RPAC. Engaging in the election and ultimately voting the right people into office is the most effective way to achieve these priorities and strengthen the ability of Americans to own, buy, and sell real property.
RSCK, GAC and RPAC encourage members to vote on November 7, 2023. But before you go to the polls, make sure you are registered to vote by October 17. Check your voter registration, find your polling place, and view your voting districts at this link.
