COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE

"The essence of America, that which really unites us, is not ethnicity or nationality or religion. It is an idea, and what an idea it is—that you can come from humble circumstances and do great things." - Condoleezza Rice
This year is flying by in the blink of an eye!
Last month, the Community Involvement Committee hosted a build-a-bed day for Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SIHP) ( link: ) https://shpbeds.org/chapter/ks-sedgwick-co/ on June 1st. There were roughly 100 volunteers that came out to help us reach our goal of building 50 beds, making the day fly by quickly. A big thank you to all who volunteered, donated, sponsored, and helped to make this an amazing event!
We have quickly moved onto our next project with a very similar goal: to help children in our community!
It is that time of year when we reach out to our membership for donations toward our annual backpack drive. This is an amazing opportunity to give back to our local schools through the WPS McKinney-Vento Program.
From now until July 29th, the CIC Committee will be collecting school supplies and backpacks. There are collection boxes at RSCK, as well as at several brokerages and other member offices for donation drop-off. Being able to provide supplies to these kids is a wonderful feeling, and we need your help to fill up the boxes to have the largest donation year ever!
“The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act requires that all schools provide students in transition with immediate access to an education, even if the child lacks school records, a birth certificate, medical/immunizations documents, or proof of residency. The Wichita Public Schools has a strong commitment to ensure that all homeless children and youth receive a meaningful opportunity to enroll and attend all public schools in the district.” https://www.usd259.org/domain/637
Mark your calendars for September 26th!
Our annual fundraising event for the REALTORS® Relief Foundation. Following the success of last year’s event, we are excited to host this year’s Fundraiser at the same venue, Public at the Brickyard. Be on the lookout for more information on this event and opportunities to sponsor this wonderful night.
Our committee will have a few more volunteer opportunities throughout the rest of the year, so stay tuned.
I hope you all stayed safe for the 4th of July. Stay cool and hydrated and have a wonderful summer!
