DEI COMMITTEE
Daisy Marquez
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee has been on a path to educate and inform our agents about how to better serve different communities in South Central Kansas.
We have created a strategic plan that focuses on marketing, events and tool kits that agents can utilize in their business to make customers and future clients feel welcome despite our differences.
As a committee, we were able to host a book club early in the year where we invited agents to read and discuss “The Color of Law” by Richard Rothstein. This book focuses on redlining and how it affected and continues to affect our communities today. We had the pleasure to be joined by District 1 Council Member Brandon Johnson to speak at our kickoff event, along with other professionals in Wichita. They shared about the importance of diversity and making people feel included, and how DEI is implemented in their workplace.
Growth and change happen when there is a safe space to have open and direct conversations about real topics that affect different communities. Together we can make a difference by becoming aware, educating ourselves and being willing to have tough discussions. As we move forward DEI hopes to provide REALTORS® with the tools they need to better serve Kansas and its citizens.
