Double H Ranch – A Rewarding Experience for Volunteers

Many thanks to Barbara Walton, Dominic Indelicato, Diane Sluus (Community Relations Committee Chair), Jay Christiana, Jonie Civill, Judy Kaiser, Karen Cahill and Laura Guillerault for volunteering their time on May 10, at the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne along with members from the Southern Adirondack REALTORS® (SAR). This yearly event is very gratifying to all who participate for such a wonderful organization.

Members planted flowers and spread mulch to prepare the property for the first group of campers and volunteers who are arriving in a few weeks.

Hats off to Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. and Homestead Funding for sponsoring breakfast and lunch for all the participants!
The Double H Ranch, located in New York’s beautiful Adirondack Park, is a demonstration of the commitment and generosity of philanthropist Charles R. Wood and actor Paul Newman. Since the Double H officially opened its doors on July 4, 1993, it has served over 80,000 children dealing with life-threatening illnesses from around the world. It was the second “Hole in the Wall Camp” in what has become a worldwide network of not-for-profit recreational and therapeutic experiences for children with serious illness, called the SeriousFun Children’s Network.

The facility resides on 320 acres of land with waterfront access to Lake Vanare. The facilities include camper cabins that are able to accommodate 126 campers, staff cabins that are able to accommodate a total of 125 staff members and volunteer cabins that are able to accommodate 50 volunteers. Program areas include an indoor and outdoor pool, a high ropes course, archery, horseback riding and pasture, picnic pavilion, stage area, dining hall, Arts & Crafts building/ski chalet, and various other outdoor spaces used for recreational play and opportunities to explore nature.

“Jack’s Place” Gets a Helping Hand from GCAR Community Relations Committee Members

GCAR’s Community Relations Committee members were proud to cook up an Italian feast for “Jack’s Place” residents in Schenectady, New York, on April 25. Many thanks to Community Relations committee members: Ginny O’Brien, Karen Cahill, Dominic Indelicato, Diane Sluus (2023 Community Relations Chair), Jonie Civill, Brenda Larkin, and Judy Kaiser for donating the ingredients and preparing the meal of lasagna and stuffed shells. A tossed salad and cake completed the meal!

About Jack’s Place: Jack Falvo III was beginning his life’s journey when he died in the summer of 2005 at 21. Inspired by Jack’s love of family and zest for life, his family established The Jack Falvo III Foundation and opened Jack’s Place in his honor.

The spacious and beautifully renovated home welcomes out-of-town families supporting their loved ones at the nearby Ellis Medicine and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. Each of the eight bedrooms has a queen bed, tv, and private bathroom. Guests also enjoy a large living room, dining area, kitchen, family room, and laundry.

Jack’s Place is sustained through annual fundraising events, in-kind donations, grants, and the generosity of individuals and local organizations donating supplies, cooking, baking, and performing in-house and grounds-work tasks.

Monetary donations can be made online at JacksPlace.org or by mailing a check to the Jack Falvo III Foundation, 17 Rosa Road, Schenectady, NY 12308
