Fair Housing 2025 Proclamation

On April 15, 2025, Mayor Lily Wu proclaimed April as Fair Housing Month. RSCK had a strong presence from our members at this event.  The RSCK members met with city council members before the Wichita City Council meeting for Coffee and Conversation, enjoying pastries and coffee together.  As REALTORS, we were reaffirming our commitment to advocating equal housing opportunities for all individuals and taking immense pride in promoting fair housing not just during April, but every day of the year.

School Bond Issue Elections

Recent school bond elections in the Wichita area have brought significant developments for local school districts, with implications for real estate professionals and the community at large.

Wichita USD 259   The state's largest school district proposed a $450 million bond aimed at improving efficiency and addressing facility needs. However, the bond failed by a narrow margin of approximately three hundred votes. The plan included closing four elementary schools and rebuilding seven others, but the district now faces challenges in meeting its infrastructure goals.

Haysville USD 261   Voters approved an $80 million bond for infrastructure improvements, including roof repairs, HVAC systems, parking lots, and interior finishes. This investment is anticipated to improve the educational infrastructure and facilities within the district.

Mulvane USD 263   Two bond proposals were on the ballot.   Question 1: A $50 million proposal for infrastructure and safety improvements at multiple schools and Question 2: A $9 million proposal to build a new early childhood education center.  Both measures did not pass, prompting the district to consider other options to address its needs.

Goddard USD 265 Looking ahead, Goddard USD 265 will hold its bond election in May. The proposal includes constructing two new elementary schools at a new campus site and repurposing Oak Street Elementary School into an Early Childhood Education Center. Additional projects include creating new learning spaces, improving athletic facilities, and investing in safety, security, and infrastructure. A bond with a value of $196,000,000 is scheduled for a vote on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025.

School bond issues and fair housing initiatives directly impact local school quality, property values, and homebuyer demand. While improved schools and equitable housing can attract families and boost property values, bond measures often lead to increased property taxes, which may influence buyer decisions. Staying informed about these developments allows REALTORS to better serve their clients and contribute to community discussions.
