- RSCK’s commitment to supporting REALTOR®-friendly candidates was reinforced through the conduct of three in-depth candidate interviews in 2024. These interviews allowed us to engage directly with candidates, assess their positions on key issues affecting the real estate industry, and ensure that they align with our priorities. Based on these discussions, we were proud to issue endorsements for those who demonstrated a strong commitment to policies that protect property rights and promote a thriving housing market. These interviews and endorsements are a testament to RSCK's proactive approach to advocating for our members' interests.
- RSCK’s inaugural Coffee with Candidates event provided a unique opportunity for members to engage with endorsed candidates in an informal, relaxed setting. This event allowed members to build meaningful relationships with the candidates, ask questions, and better understand their positions on critical real estate issues. By fostering open dialogue, Coffee with Candidates helped our members gain valuable insights into the policies that could impact their businesses and communities. This initiative strengthens our advocacy efforts by empowering REALTORS® to connect with the policymakers who will shape the future of the housing market.
- For the third year, RSCK participated in the City of Wichita Fair Housing Month Proclamation. This allows REALTORS® to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to promoting fair housing practices and equal access to housing opportunities. This annual event not only reinforces our dedication to upholding the principles of the Fair Housing Act, but also provides REALTORS® with a platform to engage with local leaders and community stakeholder. By showing up year after year, our members have helped raise awareness, foster important conversations about housing equality, and solidified their role as advocates for a fair and inclusive housing market in our community.
- We're thrilled to share that the WSU Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC) reached out to us to host a focus group in December. The aim was to gather valuable insights on buyer demand and preferred housing types to better understand the local housing supply. We had representatives from the RPAC Trustees, Government Affairs Committee, and RSCK Board of Directors who provided essential feedback. This information, combined with insights from other local groups, will contribute to a comprehensive report for Sedgwick County Government , expected in February 2025. We're grateful for the opportunity to partner with PPMC and our local government this year to advance these important initiatives!
- We would like to express our gratitude to Teketa Harding, Capitol Federal, and Sarah Gooding from the City of Wichita- Government for their valuable contributions during an April Lunch & Learn session on Unique Buyer Opportunities in the Wichita Area. We believe that homeownership is a right that should be within everyone's reach. Through enlightening our members about the various affordable housing programs and financing options available, we are committed to turning this belief into reality.
- In an April all-membership meeting to vote on the expansion of RSCK, members heard from Commissioner Ryan Baty in a keynote address on property tax reform and local government consolidation. Gatherings like these offer our members the chance to stay informed on crucial issues, contribute to the direction of our association, and actively engage in shaping policies that impact the real estate industry.
- In May, members of RSKC leadership and staff attended the NAR Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. They were part of the active role that REALTOR® members play in advancing the real estate industry while gaining valuable insight for our association.
- RSCK hosted local REALTOR® and Business Partner members for a District Visit Luncheon with Congressman Ron Estes in August. Representatives from KAR shared state legislative updates and Congressman Estes offered valuable insights on federal issues important to the real estate industry, such as flood insurance reform and rising insurance costs. The strength of NAR’s advocacy at the local, state and federal levels of government is thanks to the engagement of its membership. RSCK thanks Jon Quincy for serving as the Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) for Congressman Ron Estes. Nominated by the state presidents and appointed by the President of NAR, an FPC advocates for policy initiatives which support a fundamentally sound and dynamic U.S. real estate market. FPCs are chosen because of their relationships with Members of Congress, their high caliber political work and activities within their Congressional District, and their professional background in issues of importance to the district.
To conclude a year of ambitious and strategic RPAC fundraising, RSCK hosted Tequila Tuesday for RPAC, an event to celebrate surpassing our investment goal. This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication and unity within our association, especially among our major investors. We were once again joined by Commissioner Ryan Baty, a partner in building relationships between government and REALTORS® that will help us consider new approaches to tackling our housing crisis in the years to come.
